The replacement Standard Bore cylinder kit developed by Athena perfectly complies with the original specifications and is complete with all the necessary components. Each accessory is carefully tested before being marketed in order to offer the customer a safe and reliable product. The tests are carried out first by internal technicians and secondly on the track by the drivers. The cylinder is made of aluminum alloy with a high silicon content and each process is carried out with innovative technologies and the best CNC numerical control machine tools to ensure reduced machining tolerances and maximum precision. The cylinder is ready for installation without the need to make modifications to the original engine crankcase, and includes the mixer oil inlet fitting and the brass bushing for the pre-assembled exhaust valve shaft: the latter has been provided for a threaded seat instead of the classic interference fixing, making any future disassembly and reassembly operations much simpler. The inside of the cylinder liner is treated with Motor-Niksil to ensure better smoothness of the piston, reduced friction and less wear of the segments, all in favor of durability and constant performance: the Motor-Niksil treatment gives particular hardness to the cylinder liner. Niksil limits wear and helps maintain the nominal bore size unchanged over time. The internal radius of the exhaust crosspiece with CNC machining avoids the risk of excessive expansion which could damage the piston, thus guaranteeing perfect reliability and durability over time. The Athena flat head piston kit was designed and developed specifically for the high performance of which this cylinder kit is capable: great attention was paid to the choice of an aluminum alloy with a high silicon content for a low coefficient of thermal expansion and therefore the possibility of being able to maintain reduced coupling tolerances between piston and cylinder. The piston skirt is lightened for maximum performance and integrates a surface coating in Molybdenum Disulphide to reduce friction, noise and improve the smoothness of the piston. The piston pin is of the biconical type for greater resistance and lightness and made of aeronautical steel alloy with nitriding treatment which guarantees high hardness and low friction. The included gasket kit contains all the gaskets necessary for installing the thermal unit and is perfectly compatible with the original components. The materials used and the manufacturing technologies make them particularly resistant to oils, fuels, mixes of water with antifreeze and anti-corrosion, as well as obviously having a high resistance to mechanical and thermal stress and excellent adaptation to surfaces. The gaskets are also subjected to a surface finishing treatment to prevent any adhesion phenomenon with the cylinder head or engine block, which would cause the gasket to tear and deteriorate over time, thus losing its uniform sealing capacity.
